I have a new and sophisticated heating system that not many companies can service or have the know how to service it.  Green heating company is one of the few that can. These guys are fantastic. Called during what I thought was a busy season to get an annual tune up and they got me right in. Justin showed up on time in the middle of a snowstorm and came in and tweaked the furnace, ran all the tests and finished up in record time. Communication was perfect, he was polite and professional as usual and does a great job. Would recommend this company very highly.

Very satisfied with the Green Heat and thankful to have them in the community. I reached out to them as a new customer leaving a message on the weekend. First thing Monday morning they reached out and sent a knowledgeable, courteous, and professional technician within hours. Despite us both acknowledging the age of our boiler and its likely inevitable retirement, he thoroughly assessed the potential of repair vs jumping to a costly new boiler. Natural gas leak is what prompted my call with hopes of a leaky gasket, but he discovered corrosion through the body of the boiler. He was patient with my questions and curiosities. Despite the ideal boiler not being on hand they somehow obtained one by the next day and had it fully installed within 36 hours of our first call! This is on top of it being immediately after a holiday weekend.
What further impressed me was how they managed my call the next day. There was a lockout that occurred the first evening and appeared to resolve/run smooth after a quick reset. This was likely a new system glitch, but I had many theories it could be… the owner called to review the lockout and they sent someone out again. He was again patient, respectful, and thorough in reviewing the system was fully and appropriately functioning as well as reviewing quality installation from his colleagues. I love learning and trying to better understand home repairs/systems… and they took the time for me to gather a sense of understanding and learning the “why” behind things.

It was the first plowable snow of the season, the roads were messy and I found myself with no heat.   I called Dead River and had a technician here within 2 hours.  Whitney came in cheerful and smiling despite the dark outside and the long work day for her.  She confidently diagnosed and fixed the problem.  I was not her last stop and yet she still left with a smile.   I've been a customer for ten years.   Why?   Excellent customer service, plain and simple.  Thank you, Dead River.

I sold my home in Vermont. I am a senior woman, unable to bear the rising costs of a house in Vermont. I made the interim choice to buy an RV and live on friends' private property in Vermont. I contacted Dead River to ask them to place a large propane tank at the site of my RV. I had been using the onboard tanks but they are too small to handle heat in the RV in the winter.

Dead River refused to deliver propane to me unless my RV was off the wheels, strapped down with hurricane straps, and on a cement foundation. They cited a National Fire Code as their standard.

I looked at that fire code. None of those things were required. I checked Vermont State Law which states a dealer cannot refuse to deliver to an RV if the site is in compliance with a safety inspection by the company. That inspection mandates the site is easily accessible, the tanks would be on solid ground, the operation of the RV's gas lines were to code, and the tanks would be no closer to any other structure by ten feet.  My home complies with all of these.

When I contacted Dead River and cited the state law, the rep told me it didn't matter what the law said, it was their policy to deny tanks to an RV. Different situation here. She was no longer citing the Fire Code.  It was now company policy. I told her I felt state law trumps company policy and I contacted the Vermont Attorney General's office for guidance.

In the meantime, I contacted Suburban Propane who had no problem delivering to an RV as long as the above requirements were met and we set up a site inspection. Suburban said they were getting more and more requests from seniors who were making this choice.

The Attorney General asked me if I wanted to file a complaint against Dead River and they would mediate it based on codes and state law. I chose not to file the complaint because I got my remedy with Surburban.  However, the AG is keeping this information on file to track trends associated with this situation and Dead River's response to my request.

If you are in my situation, and are being told that a propane company will not deliver to an RV and they site Fire Code, be aware that this is not the whole story. There is nothing in the code about hurricane straps, cement slabs, and off the wheels. If it was, they wouldn't be able to deliver to any mobile home parks in the northeast where many of these homes sit on trailers with wheels and are not strapped down with hurricane straps.

Contact the Attorney General. It is worth it.

I had an emergency,  after a oil delivery the next day  there was an oil leak  so I called Dead River and a wonderful tech named Jorden was here in about 45 minutes he was very professional and kind, luckily it was the filter on the oil tank sprung a leak. It was below zero outside so I was so glad it got fixed.  Thank you so much

This is the most repulsive company I have ever worked with. When I was renting, they would charge me with zero authorization. I bought my house and they charged me for a delivery they never made. I paid $904 for an oil delivery on a Monday and that Friday was told there was a hole in my oil tank. I called dead river and asked when the last inspection of my tank was and they said there wasn’t an inspection on file. She put me on hold then magically had a date they inspected my tank. After an emergency situation where my tank AND furnace were red tagged I made the decision to switch from oil to propane. I called dead river to see when the soonest I could have someone come out to look at my house is a week after the furnace will be installed. I was told that usually people give them a “heads up” when they need these things done. I’m so sorry, I’ll try to predict my emergencies better. Unbelievable. They are deceptive and heartless. All this while knowing I am without heat as we enter December.

Edit later:  The company contacted me the next day after the review was posted, and have since reversed the decision about off-route fee.  I appreciate their prompt response and care for the customers.

The automatic delivery is not what they advertised to be; check the meter regularly and call in advance.  Also, never say "our tank is empty" if you want to avoid off-route delivery fee.  Say your tank is low instead for a regular scheduled delivery.
